For this project, we provided technical assistance for urban food system analysis, characterisation and the evaluation of urban interventions during Covid-19. Our urban market analysis had a specific focus on informal food sector actors in selected cities in Asia.
We supported a series of knowledge building products, including:
- Component 1 – An urban food system analysis and characterisation of eight selected cities in Asia (C1). The aim was to assess the resilience of urban food systems in the face of the Covid-19 crisis in eight selected cities in the Asia and Pacific region. The geographic focus was poor urban and peri-urban areas where vulnerable populations live.
- Component 2 – We produced four deep-dive case studies to provide rich evidence and examples supporting nutrition-specific and sensitive interventions in poor urban areas to promote food security and prevent malnutrition. We also provided an opportunity to evaluate urban interventions, learn from the process and offer collaboration opportunities for WFP to support upgrading and scaling up of these interventions in areas where data exists from past and underway survey efforts
- Component 3 – We performed a rapid market assessment in three selected cities to 1) understand the market environment and stakeholders in the urban contexts, and 2) specifically focus on informal food sector actors, characterise their offer and their levels of resilience during Covid-19
